Please review the transportation, parking and security details below.
Transportation and Parking
Transportation and parking will be impacted beginning Friday, June 13, 2025, due to Commencement 2025 weekend events and move-out activities. Keep the following in mind as you plan your day:
Arrive a minimum of one to two hours prior to the start of your ceremony to allow ample time to park and take shuttles as required.
Follow all event signage and directions of traffic management staff for access to the best available parking or drop-off locations.
Parking will be available on campus at no charge on Friday, June 13, Saturday, June 14, and Sunday, June 15.
Allow for an hour to depart after ceremonies as traffic will be heavy leaving campus.
Road closures will be in place. Please follow all signage to best available parking.
Clear Bag Policy
UC San Diego has implemented a clear bag policy for Commencement 2025 weekend to enhance public safety and streamline the screening and entry process. This policy restricts the size and types of bags allowed.
Bags must be clear plastic or clear vinyl and may not exceed 16" x 8" x 16" or a one-gallon clear plastic zipper bag. Small bags, clutches, or wallets no larger than 4.5" x 6.5" will be allowed.
All approved bags are subject to inspection upon entry, and guests are encouraged to keep items visible for a quicker process. Importantly, the policy does not restrict essential items such as keys, makeup, phones, and wallets, which guests can carry in their pockets. Anyone with prohibited items will be required to return them to their vehicle, place them in a rental locker, or dispose of them at the gate. A list of prohibited items can be found below on this webpage.
How many bags can each person bring into the venue? Each person is allowed one (1) clear plastic bag and one (1) small clutch. The clear bag must be no larger than 16" x 8" x 16", made of clear plastic, PVC, or vinyl, or a one-gallon Ziploc bag. The small clutch allows privacy for small personal items and will also be searched.
Have the prohibited items changed as well with this new bag policy? No. Guests are encouraged to bring only necessary items into each venue. All guests and items are subject to search. Special considerations will be made for guests with special medical needs.
Can I carry cameras, binoculars, phones, or tablets separately from what I put in a clear bag? Yes. Guests may carry permitted items in their pockets or hands such as keys, phones, wallets, tablets, etc., if you choose not to put them in a clear bag. In addition, you may carry binoculars and a camera around your neck or in your hands without the case. You can use the clear bag to carry other items.
Are all purses prohibited? No. Small clutch purses (no larger than 4.5" x 6.5"), with or without a handle or strap, are permitted along with a clear tote bag or one-gallon plastic bag.
If I have certain medical items/equipment that I need to bring into the venue, what do I do? Guests with medically necessary items may enter at any gate/entrance but will be subject to additional screening. Supervisors at each entrance will assist.
Are diaper bags allowed? Diaper bags up to 16" x 8" x 16" are permitted, but will be subject to screening. You must have the infant(s)/toddler(s) for which the diaper bag is being carried present when the diaper bag is screened.
Will there be lockers on site for bag storage? Guests with bags or items that do not comply with the Clear Bag Policy can use the on-site rental lockers for a fee. The rental lockers will be available starting two hours before the ceremony begins and will close one hour after the event concludes.
Security
For the safety of all, security will inspect all bags. Please allow ample time to pass through security screening.
NOTE: Bags are limited to 16" x 8" x 16" and must follow our clear bag policy.
