Transportation and Security

Please review the transportation and parking and security details below for special event accommodations. If you are not attending a ceremony, enter campus from Gilman Drive or Villa La Jolla Drive for the least restricted access.

Transportation and parking will be impacted beginning Friday evening, June 14, due to Commencement 2019 ceremonies and move-out activities. Plan to arrive between one to two hours prior to the start of your ceremony to allow ample time to park and walk or shuttle, where offered, to RIMAC Field or RIMAC Arena. Keep in mind, traffic will be heavy leaving campus after the ceremonies as well. Please allow for one to two hours to depart.

We strongly recommend carpooling, ride-sharing, or using public transportation. Parking will be extremely limited.

Additional information about specific lot and road closures, accessibility routes, traffic impacts, and move-out instructions will be posted in spring 2019.


For the safety of all, security will be tight. Please allow extra time to wait in line for security checks. All bags will be thoroughly searched. All graduates and guests will walk through a metal detector.

There are no on-site lockers, storage, or holding areas.

  • Aerosols, Mace, or pepper spray
  • Animals, except for service animals specifically trained to assist a person with disability
  • Bags or backpacks larger than 12" x 12" x 20"
  • Banners, signs, or placards
  • Coolers
  • Explosives
  • Fireworks
  • Knives (regardless of size)
  • Laser lights and laser pointers
  • Leatherman or similar tools
  • Noisemakers, such as air horns, whistles, or drums
  • Plastic replica of weapons
  • Portable or folding chairs
  • Sharp and/or pointed objects, scissors, or knitting needles
  • Strollers: Please leave your stroller in the car. Space will be limited, and there is no stroller check-in. Strollers may not be left in aisles at any time. If you must bring a stroller, we suggest a small, collapsible “umbrella” stroller that can be folded and placed under the chairs.
  • Tripods for cameras for All Campus Commencement (allowed for the college, Graduate Division, and professional school ceremonies)
  • Umbrellas and long pole objects, balloons and other floating items, or other items that block the view of other guests
  • Voice-enhancement devices, such as bullhorns
  • Weapons
